New York UCC Search
UCC Filing
Quick answer. A UCC filing is the act of submitting a UCC-1, UCC-3, or information statement to the filing office. A search only reads what was already accepted. A New York UCC search uses the Department of State UCC public inquiry. ACRIS is New York City land records. Federal tax lien notices filed with the Department are in the UCC database. Fees for official searches are on the Department’s FAQ.

Steps
-
Open the DOS UCC inquiry
Use the Department of State UCC search, not a corporation name search alone.
-
Search the debtor
Organization and individual fields differ. Use the legal name.
-
Note federal tax lien rows
They are in this database. Label them as tax liens, not as UCC-1s.
-
Use ACRIS only for city land records
Say which system you opened.
Filing is not searching
Texas requires UCC filings through SOSPortal and has stopped taking paper. Delaware requires electronic filing. New York offers e-filing and paper at different fees. Florida filings go to the Secured Transaction Registry vendor. Ohio filings go through the Secretary of State UCC portal.
This site does not submit the form. If you want a search of what is already on file, use the request form and name the debtor.
Statewide UCC is the Department of State
The public inquiry searches Article 9 filings and federal tax lien notices. The Department’s FAQ has listed $20 for an electronic UCC filing, $40 for paper, a $25 search fee, and copy fees beside those. Confirm the fee schedule before you pay. An information request can be required for an official search of one name.
A fixture filing or a New York City mortgage-related record can live in ACRIS or a county clerk. Do not type a block and lot into the DOS debtor search and call the result an ACRIS search.
Common mistakes
- Calling ACRIS the state UCC index.
- Ignoring a federal tax lien row.
- Quoting a stale fee after the FAQ changed.
- Searching a trade name instead of the filed debtor.
